“Dracanea” Mixed media, 12 x 12 x 1 1//2 in
This is the first of a series of 12 x 12″ cradle boards intended for the Syntax exhibition at Funky Monkey in Cheshire, CT, this September.  I used a number of gels, so the actual work appears like enamel.  It began with a pretty realistic drawing of a house plant, then morphed into this kaleidoscopic form.

“Cuneiform”  Mixed media, 23 x 31 in

Some of my most recent works explore mark-making through ‘glyphs’—ancient forms of writing that whose meanings remain mysteries.  I translate the unique character of ancient human ‘signs’ through scratches, scribbles, or tracks deeply rooted in my soma and psyche.

“Conflux”  Mixed media on wooden panel, 8 x 8 x 1 1/2 in.

This piece was the result of creating a problem to solve, rather than problem-solving.  i created random tracks and marks on paper by covering it with contact paper, applying pressure with various tools, then removing the contact paper to leave an invisible sticky residue.  Next I rubbed charcoal powder over the surface to create a network of unpredictable marks.  Using a variety of media, I imposed  aesthetic order on random chaos.
